BBEnDHYTSy4XF1YFp7wekwzZT2ybmjsfQfsKbMAiURY9Today's Japan tech news reads like a progress report on AI colonizing the rest of the world: Amazon's Bee wants to live on your wrist and take meeting notes for you, Sakana AI wants AI agents to do actual science — hypothesis, experiment, peer-reviewed paper, the whole stack — and Cloudflare's Void wants your intern's vibe-coded Vite dashboard shipped to production without anyone ever seeing a credential. Meanwhile the security beat keeps its feet on the ground: JPCERT/CC's write-up of API-credential theft via decompiled apps pairs neatly with the story of a South Park torrent that was secretly a disk-touching-nothing info-stealer. And in the one story with nothing to do with computers, ten million Korean blood tests quietly suggest we've all been fasting before checkups for years longer than the evidence required.

(Sakana AI unveils the third generation of 'The AI Scientist' — a multi-agent system that goes from hypothesis to published paper, open-sourcing the figure tool 'AutoIllustrate' too)
(gihyo.jp)
Sakana AI released the third generation of The AI Scientist, dubbed The Agentic Scientist, on October 15. It orchestrates multiple coding agents (Claude Code, OpenAI's Codex, Gemini CLI) through parallel exploration with preset rubrics, then writes papers with an audit agent that flags claims unsupported by measured results. A human-in-the-loop case — humans set the direction and rubrics, agents extended the Error Diffusion learning method to multi-class classification — passed external peer review and was accepted as an oral presentation at ALIFE 2026. Across 70 end-to-end runs on five benchmark tasks, Claude-family models scored the highest on the company's own AI paper-reviewer scale. The code is Apache 2.0 on GitHub with a CPU-only sample, and the AutoIllustrate CLI generates editable draw.io figures polished by an image model.
(Amazon adds two new devices to 'Bee', the AI that turns conversation into summaries — a $74.99 wristband type and a phone-mountable one)
(The Bridge JP)
Amazon announced two new devices for Bee, its personal AI that turns conversations into summaries and to-dos, on October 15. Bee Frontier is a wrist-worn or clip-on wearable at $74.99 — IP67 waterproof, seven-day battery, dual noise-cancelling mics, already on sale at Amazon.com in three colors — while the magnet-on-the-phone Bee Eclipse starts at $99.99 with 21-plus days per charge. Bee now links to Alexa+, Gmail, Google Calendar and Outlook, pulling out action items, drafting follow-up emails and creating calendar invites; voice is never stored and transcripts are encrypted with device-held keys. Deeper integrations need the $11.99/month Bee Pro plan, and Amazon has not announced a Japan release.
(Cloudflare open-sources 'Void', bridging Vite app development and deployment)
(gihyo.jp)
Cloudflare open-sourced Void on October 15 under the MIT license, built by the VoidZero team (Evan You's crew) that Cloudflare acquired. It is a three-part stack for Vite full-stack apps: an SDK adding API routes and server rendering with Hono, a CLI, and a self-hostable team deployment hub called Void Platform. Importing `void/db` auto-provisions Cloudflare's D1 database locally or in production, and `void deploy` bundles build, resource provisioning, migrations and rollback. Cloudflare says companies want exactly this shape — let any employee, including non-coders with an AI coding agent, ship an internal dashboard onto a governed platform without handing out cloud credentials.
(JPCERT/CC reports attack techniques via app analysis — traces of Flutter analysis tools found, and a warning on handling API credentials)
(gihyo.jp)
JPCERT/CC published findings on October 15 from its investigation of ongoing unauthorized-access incidents at Japanese organizations. Attackers analyze Android APKs to identify API endpoints and then abuse them, including probing for SSRF with a Python script returning HTTP 302 redirects; one server held traces of Blutter and jadx, tools for dissecting compiled Flutter apps and extracting embedded keys. The attackers were also observed using AI to hunt for known vulnerabilities. JPCERT/CC warns against embedding long-lived API secrets in apps, and urges server-side authorization checks, rate limiting, redirect-destination validation and pruning unnecessary internet-exposed admin features.
(What looked like a popular anime episode download turned out to be malware)
(GIGAZINE)
Web developer Thereallo documented how his personal video recorder Sonarr grabbed what looked like a new South Park episode from a public torrent tracker with plenty of seeds — and it was an .exe. The malware is a tiny 118KB PE loader padded with 886MB of junk data to make security scanners give up reading it, locating its real payload in the file's last 64 bytes, ChaCha20-decrypting it and mapping it into memory without touching disk. The payload is a 929KB info-stealer targeting browsers, crypto wallets, password managers, Telegram, Discord tokens, SSH keys and remote-access tools, fetching its command-and-control addresses from a YouTube channel and GitHub gists. His countermeasures: block *.exe in qBittorrent, Sonarr and Radarr, and demote rogue trackers in Prowlarr.
(You may not need to fast before every blood test, a study suggests)
(GIGAZINE)
A University of Ulsan team analyzed roughly 10 million lab results from 670 South Korean hospitals, published in JAMA Internal Medicine, to ask which blood tests genuinely require fasting. Of 121 analytes, only 27 truly needed it. With under eight hours of fasting, glucose ran 10.8% high, triglycerides 20.1% high and lipase 36.4% high — but blood counts, kidney markers, electrolytes and most liver enzymes barely budged regardless of fasting time. Crucially, fasting 12 hours or more gave no clinically meaningful improvement over 8–12 hours. The researchers propose scrapping blanket fasting rules in favor of per-test requirements, sparing patients the unnecessary burden of marathon fasting and the rescheduled appointments that come with failing the rule.
