BBEnDHYTSy4XF1YFp7wekwzZT2ybmjsfQfsKbMAiURY9Today's Japan felt like a stress test for the systems people trust without thinking. The earthquake early-warning system cried wolf on a massive scale — a magnitude 9.9 alert that never existed — while NTT Docomo's area-mail delivery quietly failed to send the warning at all, the two failures mirror-imaging each other. Meanwhile money kept moving onto the rails: a US bank added Ripple's RLUSD to its core platform, and Visa and Mastercard both opened stablecoin routes for business payments, which says stablecoins are becoming plumbing rather than speculation. The builders' corner was brisk too — Bun's new type checker claims to triple TypeScript 7's speed, SvelteKit 3 tidied its config into Vite, and one hobbyist squeezed 25 tokens per second out of NVIDIA's Nemotron on a six-year-old Jetson board, a reminder that clever engineering still beats buying bigger hardware. And a McGill study found that sitting up straight, nudged by nothing more than table height, made people take bolder bets — posture as a quiet lever on decision-making. Trust, plumbing, and posture: three ways the invisible scaffolding held, slipped, or shifted today.

(Earthquake early-warning false alarm and Docomo's delivery failure: opposite problems at the same time)
(CRYPTO TIMES)
The Japan Meteorological Agency issued an earthquake early warning on October 16 predicting a magnitude 9.9 quake and intensity 7 shaking from Hokkaido to central Japan, then cancelled it about eight minutes later; the real quake was a magnitude 6.9 near Kamchatka with a maximum intensity of 1 in Hakodate. The agency blamed distant observation stations feeding the magnitude calculation after a safeguard failed, while NTT Docomo separately failed to deliver its area-mail alert because it received data in an unfamiliar format. The twin failures — a false alarm and a missed delivery — put public trust in the warning system on both sides of the problem. -
(Today's crypto: US bank adopts Ripple's RLUSD; major payment companies open new stablecoin routes)
(CRYPTO TIMES)
Cross River Bank of New Jersey announced on October 15 that it added Ripple's dollar-pegged stablecoin RLUSD to its core banking platform, letting clients use RLUSD over the XRP Ledger through a single API without building blockchain infrastructure themselves, though the service is limited to some US states. The same day, Visa and Mastercard each announced commercial routes letting businesses fund payments with stablecoins — Visa via Inyo Global for USDC pre-funding of Visa Direct transfers, Mastercard via BVNK for converting stablecoin balances into local-currency bank transfers. Together the moves show stablecoins shifting from trading instruments to payment plumbing. -
(Anthropic's Bun ships a TypeScript type checker more than 3x faster than TypeScript 7, in Bun v1.4.3)
(Publickey)
Bun v1.4.3, released October 10, ships a built-in TypeScript type checker that Anthropic's team says runs more than three times faster than TypeScript 7's Go implementation while using one-half to one-quarter of the memory. The checker passes TypeScript 7.0.2's conformance tests at 100%, and in a comparison across 72 major open-source TypeScript files containing errors, its results differed from TypeScript's in only one place. The release also brings better Node.js compatibility, faster JSON parsing, 67% lower idle CPU in servers, and 166 issue fixes. -
(Web app framework SvelteKit 3 officially released: config consolidated into Vite, improved type safety and error handling)
(Publickey)
SvelteKit 3 has reached its official release, consolidating the framework's configuration into Vite's config file and retiring the standalone svelte.config.js so compiler, framework, and build settings live in one place. The release also swaps the auto-generated $lib import alias for #lib using Node.js subpath imports, and extends type checking across data fetching, forms, routing, and server communication while making it harder to accidentally import server-only secrets into browser code. Remote Functions and Async Svelte remain behind flags, with full arrival expected to mark a future SvelteKit 4. -
(Trying NVIDIA's Nemotron 3.5 Lightning on a Jetson AGX Xavier)
(Zenn)
A Japanese hobbyist benchmarked NVIDIA's Nemotron 3.5 Lightning, a 30-billion-parameter mixture-of-experts model with only 3 billion active parameters per token, on a Jetson AGX Xavier and reached about 24–25 tokens per second for single requests and roughly 34 tokens per second across two parallel requests. That is four to five times faster than the 5–6 tokens per second the same board managed on the dense Qwen3 27B model, thanks to the MoE design reading far fewer weights per token. The author concludes the old edge board is now fast enough to run an agent's sub-task model locally, with speculative decoding helping single requests and plain parallelism winning for concurrent ones. -
(Your sitting posture may change whether you take risks)
(GIGAZINE)
McGill University researchers found that posture nudged by furniture alone can shift risk-taking: 198 young women seated at adjustable tables were unknowingly guided into either an upright, expansive posture or a hunched, contracted one, then played a balloon-inflation game where bigger balloons meant more virtual coins but popping lost everything. The expansive group took more risk and earned more — an average of $701 versus $645 — without popping more balloons, and more vertical neck angles correlated with stronger feelings of pride. The result contrasts with earlier power-pose studies that found no effect, possibly because participants here never realized their posture was being manipulated.
